Why Choose Wireless Security Cameras?

Hard wired security cameras are a very useful tool for visual evidence as well as a deterrent. The problem with this type of security camera is that it can be difficult to install especially in existing homes or buildings. In fact, some people even get the help of professionals in order to set it up for them. The emergence of the wireless security cameras gave users a better option. Here are some reasons why:

Wireless security cameras are easy to install.

Setting up this type of camera is very easy. You just need to pick the area where you would like to install your camera and find a stable surface on which you can mount it. The next thing that you need to consider is the power source of your wireless camera. You can either plug it into an outlet or use batteries. Battery usage is generally for short term use of 4 to 8 hours, just make sure that you replace or charge the batteries regularly. After that, you just need to attach the video receiver to a device where you can watch the live feed. This can be a VCR, digital video recorder, a TV or a computer. It really depends on the medium that the device is compatible to.

Wireless security cameras do not require a permanent set up.

Unlike its wired counterpart, the wireless security camera can be easily moved from one place to another. It is great for areas that do not need to be monitored constantly. Even better, if you feel like changing the location of your camera because its current position does not provide you with the footage that you want, you can easily change it.

Wireless security cameras can be hidden easily.

With a wireless camera, you can keep your home protected without the added clutter. You can install it anywhere without worrying about the hideous wires that can trail all over your house or office. At the same time, the wires cannot be traced to the security camera, making it easier to hide.

The main consideration when using this type of camera is the distance you are sending the signal. Most wireless cameras state the line of sight distance but most installs require penetrating at least one wall. If you are going through standard home construction of wood or stucco with drywall interiors you can generally figure a 50 drop in distance for penetrating 1 to 2 walls. This is usually sufficient for most homes using a camera with a 300 foot line of sight distance. If you need to go further you may need to use a higher power transmitter or higher gain antennas. The use of an 8 to 10dB gain directional antenna can in many cases double your transmitting distance.

As you can see, with a wireless security camera, you have convenience, comfort and security in one package. This is the reason why many people prefer to use this type of camera. Because it is very user friendly, they don t have to spend more money in order to hire someone to do it for them. Even without an extensive knowledge in gadgets and technology, they can easily set it up on their own just by reading the manual. So, if you are new to surveillance systems and are hesitant to buy one because of the hassle of putting everything together, getting a wireless security camera is a great idea.
